Although goals in Dressage training are important, the horse may not understand the meaning behind our intentions. Many riders believe spurring and pulling to be the correct training of the horse; however, a finished picture does not pertain to the process of every horse’s training. A horse's progress can be unknowingly hindered by attempting to force the horse in a superficial “ frame “ or way of going. This begins one of the first signs of communication from the horse “Resistance.” The purpose of Dressage training is to strengthen and supple the horse while maintaining a calm and attentive demeanor. Dressage is not about tack, clothing, type of horse,. Practiced correctly, it is a great contributor to any horses physical and mental well being.
